What is a PIN?
Each parcel in the county is assigned a unique 14 digit Parcel Identification Number (PIN). A PIN is actually made of six component parts. The first three digits represent the municipality (town, village or city) where the parcel is located. The next two digits represent the township number. The next two digits represent the range number. The next two digits represent the section number. The next digit represents the quarter section number. The final four digits are a unique ID number. For readability, the PIN is usually printed with spaces or dashes separating groups of digits.
Example: The parcel where the Marathon County courthouse is located has a PIN: 29129073620178
- 291 for the City of Wausau
- Township 29N
- Range 7E
- Section 36
- Quarter Section 2 (northwest quarter section)
- 0178 for the ID
