The Parking Division operates the City's surface parking lots, four parking ramps, and on-street parking meters. Approximately 3,500 public parking spaces are provided in downtown Wausau.  There is 2-hours of free parking throughout downtown Wausau, on street and in parking ramps.  Overnight parking is available in the ramps by permit only.  Parking enforcement operates 8am-6pm M-F; Parking is free on weekends, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and day after, and Christmas Day.  (Overnight parking is available by permit only in the ramps and designated lots.)

Sales tax is included in the parking ramp fees.  No separate sales tax need to be sent to Marathon County or the State of Wisconsin.

THE CITY IS WORKING ON A NEW DOWNTOWN PARKING PROGRAM THAT WILL INCLUDE THE INSTALLATION OF PARKING PAY STATIONS, REMOVAL OF PARKING METERS, IMPLEMENTATION OF PASSPORT PARKING AND ELECTRONIC PERMITS.  THESE CHANGES WILL FOCUS ON A LICENSE PLATE BASED SYSTEM.  TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM AT THE ATTACHED LINK
