On April 22, 2014, officers from the Wausau Police Department responded to an incident reported by a citizen as people “brandishing firearms.” In addition, the person reporting the incident stated firearms were being pointed at others in a car. Officers arrived on scene and treated the situation as it had been reported. With the benefit of hindsight, we now know the people involved had Nerf guns and not real guns. The high school seniors involved in the incident had been playing a game called “Senior Shootout” also referred to as “Nerf Wars.”

In lieu of disorderly conduct citations, the high school seniors agreed to help put together a Public Service Announcement with the help of the Wausau Police and Channel 7 (WSAW). Located here is the final result of the work done by the high school students and Channel 7.
