DARE

DARE ClassD.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a cooperative effort between the Wausau Police Department and the Wausau School District, Newman Catholic Schools and Trinity Lutheran School.  Our DARE Officers teach the Fifth Grade curriculum at 16 different schools in our area.  The Fifth Grade DARE programs main focus is on making good decisions using the DARE Decision Making Model:
D- Define the problem, challenge or opportunity
A- Access the situation -What are your choices/ consequence
R- Respond- make a good choice
E- Evaluate- did you make a good choice, how could it be made in the future

Our DARE program consists of 14 lessons about drugs (tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, inhalants and prescription/over the counter drugs), friends, peer pressure, self esteem, and bullying.  

We teach DARE at the following schools:  Hewitt-Texas, Hawthorne Hills, Franklin, St. Annes, St. Michaels,  Riverview, John Marshall, Lincoln, Grant,  GD Jones, Jefferson, Maine, South Mountain, Rib Mountain,  Trinity Lutheran, and Stettin.
