On September 9, 1997 the Wausau Common Council approved the creation of a Well Head Protection Overlay District (Chapter 23.54 of the Wausau Municipal Code) to help protect municipal well groundwater resources from contamination by certain land use activities. The restrictions imposed upon the property within this overlay district are in addition to the regulations governing the underlying residential, commercial, industrial or other zoning districts or any other provisions of the zoning ordinance.

On December 9, 1997 the Common Council approved placing into a Zone “A” and a Zone “B” Well Head Protection Overlay District certain areas on the northwest side of Wausau. Please see the ordinance and map for further information regarding the Well Head Protection Overlay District.
