Outdoor Ice Rinks

Update Thursday, March 1, 2018:  All outdoor ice rinks have closed for the season due to the recent warm up causing deteriorated rink conditions.

City of Wausau outdoor ice skating rinks opened for the season Friday December 22 at 5:00 pm. Lighted ice rinks with warming houses are located at the 400 Block and Marathon Park. New this year is the return of an ice skating rink at Thom Field, also lighted and with a warming house. The Thom Field rink is the result of community input to the Park and Recreation Committee for additional outdoor skating opportunities in the City. Ice rink hours are listed below.

Weather permitting, the following ice rinks will operate for the 2017-2018 winter season:

  • Marathon Park, 1201 Stewart Avenue- Recreation rink and hockey rink with boards.  Warming house and is lighted.  There will be the annual pond hockey tournament held again this season at Marathon Park.  After this event there will be additional skating opportunities on the two northeast pond hockey rinks.
  • 400 Block, downtown Wausau - Recreation rink with a warming house and is lighted.
  • Thom Field - Recreation Rink, warming house, benches for putting skates on and is lighted.  Access off 13th Street, north of Stark Street.

All rinks have lights that are on timers for night skating.  Any time the combined air and wind temperature falls to -20 degrees or colder, all rinks will close.
