2017 Playground Program Information


Who Children attending Grades K through 5 for the 2017/2018 school year
When June 12 to August 3, 2017
Fee $32 each Resident/$41 each Non-resident

Wausau playgrounds are staffed by college-age adults who excel at leading games and arts and crafts.  In case of rain, playgrounds move into school gyms or multi-purpose rooms except on Fridays.  If it rains on a Friday there is no playground program that day.

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon sites must register through Wausau Schools Community Connections, 715.261.0581.  You may not register through the Park Department for those days/times.

Wausau City Playgrounds
This program offers four, half-day supervised sites for 5 to 11 year olds; Activities include crafts, games and sports for children entering Kindergarten through 5th grades for the 2017-2018 school year.

Registrations are welcome by mail, at the Park Department, 212 River Drive, Ste #2, or you can register at the playground of your choice. The Monday through Thursday afternoon sites must register through the Wausau School District, Community Connections, Phone 715.261.0581.  Child must be enrolled in the Community Connections program in order to participate in the Monday - Thursday afternoon playground sites.  Fee covers all 8 weeks!

June 26 - 30 Week #3 "Lions, Tigers & Bears! Oh my!"
Crafts: Animal Pennants
Games: "See Ya' Later Alligator"
Friday: 8:30 - Noon Play, 1 - 4 PM Swim at Schulenburg Pool

July 3 - 7 Week #4 "Rumble in the Jungle" (no playgrounds July 4)
Crafts: Wacky Jewels and Treasures
Games: Practice Relay Races for Friday
Event: FREE Wacky Olympics (send/wear sneakers for running)

Playgrounds Code:
In order to maintain a safe and fun play environment for all the participants in our program, we ask that children abide by the Code of Courtesy on the playgrounds and during special events.

Code of Courtesy:
*I will treat myself, other children, playground leaders and guests with respect and not use inappropriate language or make inappropriate physical contact.

* I will respect the playground supplies and not enter the vehicle without permission from the leaders.

*I will respect the school and grounds and only enter the building when I am accompanied by an adult leader. In the school I will use my inside voice and will not misuse equipment.

* I will park my bike, board or scooter, and not use them in the play areas. If I wear in-line skates to the playground, I will bring regular shoes and change into them for playground activities.

*I will follow this code of courtesy when on the playground and during special events.
