Wausau playgrounds are staffed by college-age adults who excel at leading games and arts and crafts. In case of rain, playgrounds move into school gyms or multi-purpose rooms. Wausau City Playgrounds offer half-day field trips. Children must be registered for the playground program to participate in the trips.

No Wednesday Playgrounds morning or afternoon on trip days. Children must be age 6 to ride the trip bus.
Wausau City Playgrounds
This program offers four, half-day supervised sites for 6 to 12 year olds; Activities include crafts, games, sports and day trips for children entering 1st through 6th grades for the 11-12 school year.
Registration
Registrations are welcome by mail, at the Park Department, 212 River Drive, Ste #2, or you can register at the playground of your choice. Fee covers all 8 weeks! Trip fees are an additional cost.
Fees: Wausau Residents $25/child
Non-residents $33/child
Fees do not include the cost of field trips. The trip sign-up deadline is 4 PM the Friday before the Wednesday trip, unless otherwise noted. Includes free swimming on Friday afternoons at Schulenburg Pool.
Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is available . Just bring proof of financial need in the form of Wausau or Everest free/reduced school lunch card, SSI, Wisconsin Works, Social Security Disability, Wisconsin Quest (Food Stamps) or a Medical Assistance card to the Park Office, 212 River Drive, Ste# 2, and receive 75% off the cost of registration. Assistance does not cover trip fees.

2011 Activities:
Fridays: We meet AM & PM at Jefferson, and use the pool restrooms and drinking fountains. No school gyms are available on Fridays, so if it rains on a Friday, Playgrounds are cancelled.

“Northwoods Friends”
Crafts: Friendship Bracelets, Face Paints
Games: Drip-Drop Drop, 4-Square, Mancala
Trip: Wildwood Zoo, Minocqua,
June 22, 12:30 - 5:30 PM. Sack lunch, and a sweater or light jacket required.
June 27 - July 1 Week #3 (½-day trip - Wed.)
“Sky-High Friends”
Crafts: Dream Catchers, Tie-Dye,
Games: Kickball, Bocce Ball,
Trip: Rib Mountain State Park, June 29, 12:30 – 4:30 PM. Water bottle required and a light jacket or sweater.

BUS LEAVES/RETURNS to 212 RIVER DR, (NEXT TO VFW). 8 AM - 6 PM.
Trip 2: Camp Out: Ages 7 & up Dells of the Eau Claire Park (DEC), July 22.
Go to Eau Claire Dells Park campground on the EAST side of Hwy. (NOT at the scenic overlook) Drop off 12:30 PM Fri.
Pick up 8:30 AM on Saturday, Camp Site #1. No Friday Playgrounds.
July 25 - 29 Week #7 (ALL-day trip – Wed.)

Crafts: Animal masks and Fan pennants
Games: Flag Football, Punt, Pass & Kick.
Trip: NEW Zoo Tour & Resch Waterpark Green Bay, July 27, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
Sack lunch, towel & swim suit required.
Aug 1 - 4 Week #8 All Playgrounds
“Poolside Beach Party” Thursday August 4, 12:30 - 4:30 PM. Memorial Park, off Sturgeon Eddy. Don’t forget your swim suit and towel!
Playgrounds last day is Thursday, August 4, 2011.

Trip Guidelines:
Who Can Go? Children must be at least 6 years old by the day of the trip to ride the bus.
What To Bring: Always send a light sweater or jacket and for full days, a sack lunch on trips. We do not stop at fast food restaurants for lunch. Send a towel and swim suit on trips to water parks or beaches.
What Stays Home: Sick kids, valuable clothes, toys, electronic games or Ipod/CD/MP3/DVD players.
Safety/Security: Children on bus trips must wear a Park Department wrist band. Children must ride the bus to and from a trip site. Parents can not pick up/drop off their child at a bus trip site.
Drop Off/Pick Up Site: Bus trips leave from ONLY ONE SITE in the city. Please drop off your children at GRANT SCHOOL. Please pick up your child at that same site where you dropped them off.
Playgrounds are not held at any Wausau sites during ½ day or full day trips!
Playgrounds Code
In order to maintain a safe and fun play environment for all the participants in our program, we ask that children abide by the Code of Courtesy on the playgrounds, on trips and during special events.
Code of Courtesy
*I will treat myself, other children, playground leaders and guests with respect and not use inappropriate language or make inappropriate physical contact.
* I will respect the playground supplies and not enter the van without permission from the leaders.
*I will respect the school and grounds and only enter the building when I am accompanied by an adult leader. In the school I will use my inside voice and will not misuse equipment.
* I will park my bike, board or scooter, and not use them in the play areas. If I wear in-line skates to the playground, I will bring regular shoes and change into them for playground activities.
*I will follow this code of courtesy when on the playground, on bus trips and during special events.
