2019 Playground Program Information

On Monday June 10 only - am playgrounds will meet in Memorial Park because elementary students will still be in class at Marshall School.
Wausau playgrounds are staffed by college-age adults who excel at leading games and arts and crafts. In case of rain, playgrounds move into school gyms or multi-purpose rooms except on Fridays. If it rains on a Friday there is no playground program that day. Includes four field trips.

- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon sites must register through Wausau Schools Community Connections, 715.261.0581. You may not register through the Park Department for those days/times.
Wausau City Playgrounds
This program offers four, half-day supervised sites for 5 to 11 year olds; Activities include crafts, games and sports for children entering Kindergarten through 5th grades for the 2019-2020 school year.
Registrations are welcome by mail, at the Park Department, 212 River Drive, Ste #2, or you can register at the playground of your choice. The Monday through Thursday afternoon sites must register through the Wausau School District, Community Connections, Phone 715.261.0581. Child must be enrolled in the Community Connections program in order to participate in the Monday - Thursday afternoon playground sites. Fee covers all 8 weeks!

June 17-21 Week #2 "Flying High in the Sky"
Crafts: Airplane Gliders and Coffee Filter Butterflies
Games: Hula Hoop Flight School / Pilot and Air Traffic Controller Obstacle Course
Field Trip: Wednesday, June 19, Parent to drop off kids at 8:30 am at Alexander Airport Park.
City Airport tour at 10 am. Parent to pick up from park by noon
Friday: 8:30 am - noon Play, 1-4pm Free swim at Schulenburg Pool!
June 24 - 28 Week #3 "Time Travelers"
Crafts: Bead Animals
Games: Nature Scavenger Hunt
Field Trip: June 26. Parent to drop off at Marathon County Historical Society 8:30 am and
pick up by noon. Tour & activity.
Friday: 8:30 am - noon play, 1-4 Free swim at Schulenburg Pool!
July 1-5 Week #4 (no playgrounds July 4) "Wacky Olympics Week"
Crafts: Team Spirit Banners & Pennants
Games: Practice Relay Races for Friday's

July 8-12 Week #5 "Water Patrol"

Field Trip: Thursday, July 11. Parent to drop off at Marathon Junction, Marathon Park 8:30 am.
Bring suit/towel at Splash Pad. Parent picks up at Junction at Noon.
Special Event: Fire Department Day
July 12, Jefferson 8:30 - noon. Bring swim suit and towel or extra dry clothes as we will get wet!
Free swim 1-4pm at Schulenburg Pool!
July 15 - 19 Week #6 "Storytellers Week"

Games: Team Tag, Capture the Flag
Field Trip: Thursday, July 18 at Marathon County Public Library in Wausau. Parent to drop off at lower parking lot at 8:30 am. Parents to pick up by noon. Library tour and aquarium activity.
Friday: 8:30 am - noon play, 1-4 pm Free swim at Schulenburg Pool!
July 22 - 26 Week #7 "Stuffed Animal Safari"
Crafts: Craft Stick Crocks, Bead Animals
Games: Elephant races, rubber chicken toss Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon

July 29 - August 1 Week #8 "Buried Treasure!"
Craft: Memory Books
Games: Treasure Hunt, Disc Golf
THURSDAY - Memorial Park 10am - 1pm picnic at Memorial, 1-4 pm Pool Party!

In order to maintain a safe and fun play environment for all the participants in our program, we ask that children abide by the Code of Courtesy on the playgrounds and during special events.
Code of Courtesy:
*I will treat myself, other children, playground leaders and guests with respect and not use inappropriate language or make inappropriate physical contact.
* I will respect the playground supplies and not enter the vehicle without permission from the leaders.
*I will respect the school and grounds and only enter the building when I am accompanied by an adult leader. In the school I will use my inside voice and will not misuse equipment.
* I will park my bike, board or scooter, and not use them in the play areas. If I wear in-line skates to the playground, I will bring regular shoes and change into them for playground activities.
*I will follow this code of courtesy when on the playground and during special events.
