Mayors Youth Action Council

Youth making a difference in Wausau by coming together, taking a stand and doing something worthwhile.

Identify issues affecting youth, provide resources for youth orientated programs & projects, develop & implement programs for youth, promote public awareness of strengths & abilities of youth, connect teens to services and assist city in planning youth activities & teen outreach.

Members include approximately 12- 20 youth for a 1 year term from October to August. Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. The Chairperson, Co-chair, and Secretary are appointed by the Mayor.

Applicant must be entering 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade in September 2010, attend a school or training program and reside or attend a school in the City of Wausau.

Attend orientation session, attend regular monthly meetings, participate in sponsored programs, sub-committees and meetings, report to City Council on activities, and occasionally attend City Council meetings.

Application will be reviewed by a Selection Committee headed by the Mayor and interviews may be held prior to the orientation session, if needed.

The City of Wausau Mayor's Youth Action Council Youth Grant Program has been established to encourage, promote, and help create youth events, programs, services, and opportunities which directly benefit the youth in the Wausau area.  The grant program is designed to provide time limited funds, not on-going operational costs.  The Mayor's Youth Action Council may issue up to $4,000 in total projects for the allocation period within the 2011 fiscal year ending December 31.  The application is available by clicking here.
